Taqueria y Carniceria Guadalajara (Taco and Butcher Shop in English) Express, stands in a humble restaurant line adjacent to Kennett High School. The tan exterior displays only one red awning imprinted with “Taqueria y Carniceria Guadalajara Express” in bold white letters, presenting a simple flavor of the outside completely diametric to the taste of their food.
The quesa-birria tacos from Taqueria y Carniceria Guadalajara Express are the best tacos in the area. The tortilla, which is cooked in homemade birria sauce, is perfectly crispy and flavorful on the outside. The inside is just as good. Finely seasoned beef is topped with onion and cilantro, but most importantly with a blanket of melted cheese. Paired on the side is a bowl of fresh birria with a shimmering top layer of oil.
The quesa-birria taco dunked into the fresh birria sauce is the best combination of food that your taste buds will ever have the privilege to encounter.
The crispy tortilla dripping with flavor from the birria works wonders with the savory shredded beef, while the cilantro and onion bring a sense of freshness and break up the heavy savoriness of the beef and cheese. Avid food lover and connoisseur junior Ben Ng said, “[The quesa-birria tacos are the] best tacos around and [they’re] not overpriced! They are super authentic.” For about $14, the quesabirria tacos offer some of the highest flavor to dollar ratio that you’ll see.
The restaurant’s atmosphere feels welcoming and authentic, truly creating an inviting experience. You might even need to speak a bit of spanglish when ordering, as their menu lists every dish in both languages.
When your order is ready, a silver bell rings followed by your name, and at your table you are given a variety of hot sauces and spices. Overall, the food was great and so was the experience. The Taco gets a 9.4 from us because of its crisp and at the same time soft tortilla, rich birria broth, good ratio of beef to cheese to veggies to sauce, and combination of flavor.
