Senior Elle Johnson has been dominating on the basketball court as a guard for the Longhorns throughout high school. As a lifelong lover of the sport, Elle has been on the Unionville Girls’ Varsity Basketball team since her freshman year.
Her goal as a senior and captain is to lead her team by example while also making sure her teammates feel included. She said, “I want to create an environment that allows people to talk to me as a leader, and to feel comfortable with sharing how they feel on the team.” Even though she is injured for the rest of the season, that does not stop her from helping her team achieve their goals. Her team is very inclusive and meshes very well with each other, which reflects how they play on the court. The seniors on the team have been playing together since 7th grade, and they enjoy every minute they spend together on and off the court.
No matter the time of year, Elle practices every day, even on Sundays where she just goes out to shoot to work on her form and accuracy. Additionally, she works out two times a week during the season, and during the off-season, she works out three times a week and shoots as much as she can.
As a student-athlete, Elle’s final words are, “You don’t know when you’ll last get to play on the court, and bringing it every single game and practice is extremely important. Giving your very, very best truly makes you a better player, and I think I saw that with our team. When you work harder, you also make others work harder, which makes the team better.”
Elle Johnson will attend Catholic University in the fall as a student-athlete for the Girls’ Basketball team.
