Last month, several senior art students applied to be a Featured Senior Artist in the 2024 Unionville Art Gala. Art portfolios were reviewed by members of the PTO, led by Sarah Dinsel, and it was soon announced that Sree Seshachar and I (Piper Coon) have been selected as the Featured Senior Artists. Alexandra Nguyen received an honorable mention for her work and will also be featured in the show. The opportunity to be featured in the annual Art Gala is special for seniors; each Senior Artist gets to display his or her work on a personal wall in the student section of the show. Seniors are featured alongside local professional artists who set up their displays throughout the Cyber Cafe and auditorium lobby.
After students have spent years developing their artistic skills in the high school’s art classes, the Art Gala is a unique chance for seniors to showcase their work in the same environment and context as professional artwork.
For my family, the Art Gala holds a special significance; both my mother’s jewelry and my grandmother’s paintings are displayed at the show every year, and this year, my display will mean that three generations of artists in our family will be featured in the same show. Sree Seshachar’s family also has a strong connection to the Art Gala; last year, his sister Amala received an honorable mention for her art. The show is a chance not just to display one’s own artwork but also to connect with the community and share the experience of appreciating beautiful work.
The 2024 Unionville Art Gala will be held on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23. Be sure to visit to support both student and professional artists from around our community!
