On January 29, four students from the high school were selected as nominees for the Presidential Scholarship. The foundation was established in 1964 to honor high schoolers who excel in academics, visual, creative, performing arts, or career and technical education fields. The most common section to be nominated in is academics, which is determined by SAT and ACT scores. The top 20 highest scores for men and the top 20 highest scores for women from each United States state and territory will be able to apply for the Presidential Scholars Program.
Among the students selected in Pennsylvania were seniors Sophie Zhang, Ian Coutinho, Andy Ye, and Will Neuberger from the High School. Zhang expressed her surprise and honor by the recognition. “To be honest, I wasn't aware of the Presidential Scholars Program before receiving the nomination, but it was nice to see my efforts recognized along with many other talented students,” said Zhang. “I thought it was a great opportunity and decided to apply to see where it goes.”
