The High School’s BoDEI Club (Board of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), led by senior Navya Nadkarni, is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and equity across the school district. The club fosters a sense of community among students of all ethnicities and races, advocating for the importance of diversity and combating discrimination.
BoDEI hosts a variety of cultural events open to all students, designed to raise awareness about the diverse communities within and beyond the high school. These events encourage student communication and collaboration, helping to build stronger relationships while promoting respect for diversity. Some of the events offered by BoDEI include holiday celebrations and cultural lunches, where students can bring dishes from their own cultures to share with others.
Navya explains that BoDEI also celebrates different holidays, collaborating with the cafeteria to serve culturally significant dishes for events like Diwali and Lunar New Year. Through this partnership, the cafeteria offers food provided by BoDEI, allowing students to enjoy and learn about diverse cultures while trying new and delicious dishes. These experiences not only introduce students to new foods but also provide valuable opportunities to learn about different traditions.
Celebrations such as Holi are also embraced within the community through BoDEI, allowing students to explore and appreciate traditions that may be less familiar to them. By focusing on cultural celebrations, BoDEI ensures that all students feel included and celebrated, helping to fulfill the club’s mission of fostering a more inclusive school environment while reinforcing the “Kindness Matters” message.
Getting involved in BoDEI is easy! Many students join the club through the activities fair at the start of the year, but the club always welcomes new members to its meetings and events. Since BoDEI is open to new ideas from both students and staff, everyone’s voice is valued. BoDEI offers an excellent opportunity for all students to contribute to a positive and inclusive community, while raising awareness about the underrepresented populations in today’s society.
